Location

Lake Francis Case is created by Fort Randall Dam on the Missouri river in southern South Dakota. The lake provides flood control, recreation and hydroelectric power under the supervision of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The town of Pickstown is located at the dam site and the town of Chamberlain is located at the I-90 Bridge about 87 miles upstream. The town of Platte is on Hwy 44 about 10 miles East of the lake.

Getting There

From central Nebraska, Highway 281 crosses over the Dam at Pickstown. From South I-29, turn west at Vermillion on Highway 50, through Yankton to Wagner, then Highway 46 to Pickstown. At Pickstown, you are looking to launch at North Point State Park (# 5). Other launch options are Snake Creek State Park (# 10) on Highway 44 and Cedar Shore (Chamberlain) on I-90.  If you are coming from central South Dakota or points further north, a great launch option is at Dock-44 Marina on Highway 44.  From this central point, you can choose to cruise either Northwest or Southeast depending on wind conditions.
