PreparationsFirst, bring everything that you need. Except for gas, ice, and water; supplies are not easily available and any boats that you see will usually be fishermen trolling along the shoreline. Usually you will be anchoring in coves in about 15 feet of water. Most of the coves are deep water so you may have to approach shore for depths of 15 feet. The bottom is mostly sticky mud so when you pull anchor, you will need to rinse the mud off everything. The other option is to just bow-into-shore. I have a 4 foot fixed keel and can usually jump off the bow onto dry land. You might want to plan how you will get back onto the bow as it can be a big step. We often pitch a tent on the shore as most of the waterfront is Federal Land (primary exception is the homes around North Point (# 5). Also no one seems to mind a small driftwood fire along the waters edge. There are also many recreation facilities along the shore with primitive and developed facilities. |
