This Cruising Guide for Lake Francis Case is written to encourage boaters to experience the beauty and seclusion of this "Great Lake of the Missouri". It is hard to strike out to new cruising ground with no idea what to expect in available facilities. I've attempted to provide some basic information and I am happy to answer questions directed to my email. So please raise anchor and explore the wilderness. Lake Francis Case is 107 miles long and about 2 miles wide with a maximum depth of 140 feet. The shoreline length is 540 miles. Coves with safe anchorages abound and most of the shoreline is public land permitting access to the boaters. Developed and primitive campgrounds (used primarily by fishermen) exist mostly along the lower half of the lake. About 41 miles upstream from the dam is the first highway bridge crossing (Hwy 44) with overhead clearance of about 41 feet depending on pool level. Water depths are about 80 feet at this point but the lake will become shallower about 10 miles north and occasional trees can be seen rising from the depths. The picturesque shoreline and a scarcity of other boaters provide a feeling seclusion throughout the summer. You will see occasional fishing boats along the shore primarily near launching ramps. The primary exception is the July 4th holiday with all campgrounds full and many motorboats looking for secluded beaches on the lower half of the lake. |
